A Beacon of Hope in Bukabwa | MEET MIRIAM

In the heart of Bukabwa, a small town in northwestern Tanzania, lives a young girl whose dreams shine brighter than the challenges surrounding her. Miriam John, a Class 4 student at Oikos School, is not just a pupil—she is a symbol of hope for her community.

At just nine years old, Miriam has already set her sights on a future where she can uplift her people through education. “I want to be a teacher,” she says with conviction. “If I teach my people, they can learn how to overcome poverty.” Her words resonate deeply in a region where, according to UNICEF, three out of every four children experience some form of poverty, impacting their access to education, nutrition, and healthcare .

Miriam’s passion is rooted in her belief that knowledge is the key to breaking the cycle of poverty. “Education is the only way we can change our lives. My teachers have taught me that, when we know better, we can do better.” She explains. This mindset is crucial in a country where rural areas face significant educational challenges, including a lack of qualified teachers and learning materials.

Her journey is made possible by the support of Oikos School. We are dedicated to providing quality education to children in Bukabwa. The school’s efforts are vital in a region where many children are unable to attend school due to financial constraints and inadequate facilities .

With the support of Oikos School, children in Bukabwa are not only learning but are also dreaming of a brighter future. “One day, I will teach my people, and together, we will build a better Bukabwa.”
