  • Ensure the education mission and philosophy of Twelve21 Global are being upheld in our schools.
  • Directly oversee and manage all teachers, assistant headmaster, and support staff.
  • Facilitates all school staff meetings.
  • Creates weekly duty schedules for teachers and staff members.
  • Represent the school in communication between other schools, the community, organizations, and individuals.
  • Adhere to all governing laws required within the school system of Tanzania.
  • Maintain regular communication between teachers and parents/guardians to communicate student performance, progress, achievements, personal development, or any other matters regarding the child’s means of growth and education.
  • Working with parents/ guardians to ensure students access extended services, extra-curricular activities, homework, and other social and educational experiences.
  • Actively participates in staff training seminars and faculty meetings, demonstrating a commitment to professional growth and improvement.
  • Assigns specific duties and responsibilities to teachers and assistant headmaster.
  • Works with teachers to maintain curriculum for each grade level.
  • Oversee weekly development and implementation of teacher lesson plans.
  • Ensures teachers have all recourses necessary for each class.
  • Perform semi-annual staff evaluations. At least one evaluation should be an official review to be kept in the teacher records.

The teacher is to raise the standards of pupil attainment and achievement within their subject area and monitor and support pupil progress. Their responsibilities include:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Teaching Responsibilities
    • Ensure that all lessons are planned with clear aims and objectives and are delivered in line with the departmental schemes of work and school policies.
    • Take into account the differing ability lessons of pupils and differentiate work accordingly.
    • Encourage all pupils to actively engage in their learning and review their progress against targets.

    • Set appropriate tasks and challenges for homework according to the published timetable and ensure that it is regularly marked with constructive feedback.

    • Deal with inappropriate behavior quickly and effectively according to the school discipline policy.
    • Monitor pupil participation, demeanor, and attitude in class and ensure that follow-up procedures are implemented when necessary.
    • Keep work areas tidy and organized to promote safety and learning.
    • Establish and maintain high standards of pupil conduct.
    • Act as a positive mentor and role model and promote the school’s values and ethos.

Summary: The school Nurse is responsible for the health and well-being of the students, as well as promoting health education and preventive health practices for students and their families.

Overview of Experience/Qualifications

The school Nurse will need to demonstrate excellent interpersonal and organizational skills. They will have:

  • A warm and empathetic personality, tactful manner, and good listening skills
  • A firm but fair and consistent outlook
  • Sound knowledge of safe medicine dispensation and first aid
  • Excellent communication skills
  • A firm understanding of the need for confidentiality and discretion concerning privileged information

Education/Certification:

  • Graduate of an accredited professional nursing education program
  • Valid registered nurse license to practice professional nursing in Tanzania.

Experience:

  • Two years of nursing experience, preferably in community health

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

The duties and responsibilities below are illustrative. In addition, the position holder will be expected to become involved in a range of work on occasions that may not be shown below:

General Responsibilities

  • Healthcare: The School Nurse will be the lead practitioner in ensuring that the welfare needs of the children are met by:
    • Assisting in creating plans for yearly physicals and checkups for each child.
    • If a child comes to school ill, the classroom teacher should call upon the School nurse to evaluate whether the child needs to be sent home or see a doctor.
    • Liaising with parents to discuss their child’s specific needs and ensuring appropriate provision for children with medical conditions or particular needs.
    • Ensuring that individual health care plans are devised and monitored as and when required and that these are reviewed at least annually.
    • Providing a high level of care when a child becomes ill while at school.
    • Ensuring the safe storage and handling of medicines.
    • Taking a lead role in administering medicines to pupils and providing guidance on this to colleagues as required. Liaising with the relevant health authorities to implement immunization programs for pupils as and when needed.
  • Home Visits: The school nurse must visit at least 5 homes per week.
    • The purpose of these visits will be to evaluate the living conditions of the students, discuss their well-being and health, and look for signs of abuse or neglect.
    • Each home should be visited once per quarter or four times per year.
  • Inspections
    • Inspect the children’s cleanliness and make notes for teachers to follow up when children are visibly dirty or come to School in dirty uniforms.
    • Inspects the tidiness of the classrooms.
    • Makes a note of facility cleanliness and reports information to the headmaster– are there birds, bugs, or bats that need to be taken care of.

Administrative responsibilities

  • Maintaining accurate records of the medical needs of the students and all health issues.
  • Ensuring that all staff is aware of the medical needs of the students in School and when pupils are taken on trips, outings, or off-site visits.
  • Ensuring that all staff is aware of specific students with particular potentially life-threatening needs and ensuring that they are provided with the necessary training.
  • Maintaining accurate records of the treatments administered, including first aid and medications.
  • Document and submit a report of each home visit.
